Cars are like second homes to many. They not only transport us, but they offer shelter, a place to relax, a place for family to gather, and can even give us some of our fondest memories. So, it’s not uncommon that they would get messy from time to time. One woman in Mississippi found out the hard way what may happen if you forget to clean out your car at the end of the day.
For many, our cars are a place that keep our lives moving, especially on busy days. Whether it’s work functions, time with friends, traveling to school or sports functions with kids, they can serve as a makeshift dining room, with food and drinks often the main culprit of accumulated trash, but when trash stays in your vehicle a bit too long that could lead to a rodent issue.
Mississippi Mom Finds Mouse Swimming In Her Coffee Cup
A TikTok video posted by @alicat_808 reveals one Mississippi mother of two getting a big surprise when she opened up her car door. Ali reveals in the clip that she went out to her car at midnight and couldn’t believe what she found. In her cupholder, a plastic cup containing about 1/3 of leftover coffee and a straw can be seen.
While this wouldn’t normally be unusual, inside the cup was a little brown mouse. The creature is seen basically swimming in the coffee as it peeks its head out of the top and looking back at Ali. “It was staring at me when I opened my door,” she says.
“What do I do? Do I burn my car down?” she jokes. Meanwhile, the mouse doesn’t appear to be frightened of Ali’s presence. The surprised mama says that she won’t be able to sleep knowing there’s a mouse in her car, but quickly comes to terms with her new furry friend.
She Had To Improvise
After getting a bit of a scare when the mouse began to move around, Ali joked that the creature was now “way more active” than when she first arrived in the car, blaming the caffeine in the coffee on his newfound energy. “Don’t you look at me like that,” she says hilariously as the animal begins to twist and turn in the cup.
Later, Ali is seen relaxing in her vehicle with her head in her hand, recapping how she spent a Saturday night hanging out with her “pet car mouse.” She then pans the camera back down to the cup, where she has placed a glass baking dish over the top to trap the mouse inside.
“Nothing says midnight horror quite like finding a mouse swimming in your leftover coffee. I will never emotionally recover from this,” Ali wrote in the caption of the post. She even tagged Starbucks to let them know that even mice enjoy their cold brew.
The Internet Couldn’t Get Enough Of The Mouse Jokes
The video was a hit with viewers, who couldn’t contain the jokes in the comments. “If you give a mouse a coffee, he’s going to ask to go to Target,” one person said. “Ratatouille just drinking his morning coffee before his shift,” another quipped.
“He won’t be able to sleep for a while,” a third person chimed in. “I would be worried that they have a whole colony in my car now,” a fourth comment read.
Many others were concerned for the wellbeing of the animal. However, Ali said that he’s “alive and well outside” after being released. “He’s cute but he can’t live in my coffee or my car,” she added.
Has This Happened To Anyone Else?
Unfortunately, Ali’s not alone in her experience. In addition to people in the comments telling her similar stories, another social media user found a mouse in her travel coffee mug after leaving it in her car overnight.
TikToker @jamieocamp says she was “disgusted” by her find, and couldn’t believe she’d been driving around with the mouse in her cup.
How Do You Get Mice Out Of Your Car?
For Ali and others having similar rodent issues, there are some things that can be done to get mice out of a car. Car Pro reveals that some ways to get mice out of a vehicle include turning up the heat or parking the car in the sun, honking the horn, setting traps, and using repellent.
The Mississippi woman may now need to take the next steps to ensure that no other rodents are getting into her vehicle. As for the mouse, hopefully he’s living his best life after his coffee car dip.
