North Carolina Farms Deals With Runaway Giant Inflatable Pumpkin

The inhabitants of the car laugh and jokingly scream as they put it in reverse while watching the large jack-o-lantern tumble toward them. “It’s coming so fast,” one person states. As the inflatable pumpkin continues to blow in the wind, an employee from the farm rushes to try to stop it.

He’s attempts to stop it, but it’s too large for just one man to wrangle. “I’m going to get out and help this guy,” the driver says before walking over and lending a hand. In a follow-up video, Phillips Farms show another angle of the gigantic pumpkin escaping into the wild. This time, they hilariously used the Indiana Jones music, in reference to the film’s giant boulder scene.

“He’s home, he’s anchored, and his very large family members will also be joining us this weekend for our annual #PUMPKINFEST🎃!” the business wrote in the caption of the video.

The Internet Was Thoroughly Entertained

Social media users couldn’t help but laugh at the situation, especially since it seems no one was hurt and the pumpkin was returned to it’s original place. “My first legit thought was James and Giant Peach but Halloween themed lmao,” one person commented.

“The anxiousness in the woman’s voice to back up and turn around, while the driver calmly narrates is sending me,” said another. “How do you explain this to the insurance company?” a third person chimed in. “You missed your opportunity for real life Rocket League,” a fourth viewer quipped, referencing the popular video game where cars hit large soccer-like balls.

Are Giant Inflatable Decorations Safe in Windy Conditions?

While giant inflatable decorations can make a big impression at fall festivals and other outdoor events, their size can also make them vulnerable to windy conditions. With so much surface area exposed, a strong gust can push an inflatable around if it isn’t adequately secured.

The National Weather Service warns that high winds can turn loose outdoor items into dangerous, blowing objects. That’s why proper anchoring and monitoring weather conditions are important when setting up large decorations outside.

Manufacturers also provide specific instructions for securing inflatable decorations. Gemmy Industries, which makes seasonal inflatables, recommends using the designated stakes, tethers and weight bags where provided. Its instructions also caution against operating its inflatables in unusually strong winds.

Where Can You See The Giant Pumpkin In Person?
